摘要

We sincerely appreciate the enthusiastic comments and new data presented by Talbot (2007) in response to our suite of recent papers addressing hydrothermally produced salts (Hovland et al,2005;Hovland et al.,2006a-c).Although his review is lengthy and interesting, the critical comment boils down to one single word:'most'-i.e.,he suggests we are wrong in concluding that most of the salt in the Danakil depression (Lake Asale/Dallolorth of Erta Ale) is of hydrothermal origin. In this reply,we will only deal with this area, and focus on the origin of the hot brines exiting many places there, and we conclude that we are not wrong.
