Japan imports 20 per cent less EU pork; China imports less poultry and exports more; EU cattle prices continue to rise; Reform of the EU sheep sector: Between December 2007 and February 2008 consultants Ernst and Young, together with the Institute deI'Elevage, undertook a study on the future of the European sheep sector on behalf of the European Parliament. The study was part of the preparatory process for a specific report on the sheep sector being prepared by Liam Aylward, MEP. Aylward's ten-pointaction plan to reform the sector has now been finalised: Task force: A new EU Implementation Task Force is to be established, comprising key officials from the European Commission and from the countries representing the four next Presidencies of the EU.The Task Force will oversee the practical reforms needed so as to make the European sheep sector viable, competitive and profitable. It is to present progress reports to the agriculture committee of the European Parliament and the EU Council of Agriculture Ministers every six months over the next two year period.
