Cattle census May/June 2006; Drought increases Australian production; Brazilian poultry production slows; Contraction in EU cattle numbers: The results of the EU May/June cattle census are not yet available from all member states, but those that havebeen published are shown overleaf. They show that there has been a slight downward trend overall; cattle numbers for those countries available total 75.5 million head, one per cent less than in May/June 2005. Cattle numbers were lower in each of the three largest national herds, Germany, France and the United Kingdom, so this has influenced overall trends.
