The focus of safety management has recently changed from rules and procedures to employee behaviour. Behaviour-based safety (BBS) approaches have emerged only since the mid 90's but their track record in achieving significant reductions in the rate and seriousness of workplace accidents have contributed to their quick spread in industry. The approach does have its critics; how it is implemented can make the difference between success and failure. BBS grew out of behavioural approaches to managing employees at work.
