More flexibility for ecology and economy. Herbicide resistant cultivated plants offer advantages to the farmer and society.

摘要

Use of herbicide resistant varieties is discussed from an environmental point of view. Four aspects are emphasized: (1) reduction of herbicide quantities, (2) use of environmentally friendly herbicides, (3) post-emergence weed control, and (4) new cultivation methods to reduce erosion and nutrient and pesticide leakage. It is concluded that the positive environmental impact of transgenic plants is beneficial for farmers and society as a whole.
