Arctic (pronounced: ard·ik or ark'tic), by definition, would indicate an area north of the Arctic Circle (660 33'N) where the average temperature of the warmest month is below 100C (500F) and the average winter temperature is -400 C (-400F). The lowest recorded temperature was -680C (-900F). Figure 1 illustrates the arctic area.
