FARMS is growing in importance

The need for reliable domestic and offshore labour in Ontario's horticulture sector continues to grow, says Gary Cooper, president of the Foreign Agricultural Resource Management Service (FARMS). Addressing farmers at the ninth annual FARMS meeting inBurlington, Ont, Cooper says the organization is also growing in importance with increased labour needs. FARMS is a grassroots organization formed in 1987, and charged with supplementing the domestic labour force with offshore labour in the seasonal horticulture sector. Some of FARMS' responsibilities include visa requirements, troubleshooting, and direct negotiations with relevant Canadian ministries and supplier nations.
