Ontario's 260 grape juice growers have benefited from U.S. competition for their white grape juice by signing six-year contracts with their major processor, Mott's Canada, which had always taken grapes on a year-to-year basis. Mott's new long-term commitment to growers on the Niagara Peninsula comes at the same time it is closing its Cadbury Beverages processing plant in St. Catharines, putting 170 people out of work. It is looking elsewhere to bottle under itsCanadian licensing agreement with Welch's Foods in the U.S.
