Bucking the trend - Birmingham company shows that mould and tool making are still viable in the UK

Last year saw a rationalisation in the press-tool-making industry in the West Midlands, with dozens of firms going out of business, including some of the biggest names. This followed a similar shake-up in the plastic injection mould-making sector a few years ago. Moreover, these events are mirrored around the UK as OEMs either relocate overseas or buy their tools from low-wage countries. However, Birmingham-based A&M EDM is bucking this trend.
