Hygrohypnum polare (Musci, Amblystegiaceae) new to Switzerland

Hygrohypnum polare (Lindb.) Loeske, an arctic-alpine moss species previously known in the Alps only from Austria, is recorded for the first time from the Swiss part of these mountains, from whence it was collected at a single station in fine fruitingcondition. The general distribution of the species is briefly outlined. As a result of a collecting trip to the "Fimbertal" neat Ischgl (Orisons, Switzerland/Tirol, Austria) in 1993, the arctic-alpine circumpolar species Hygrohypnum polare (Lindb.) Loeske (Fig. 1) was found for the first time in Switzerland. The plants were collected from wet rocks in and along the "Fimberbach" stream below the "Heidelberger Hiitte" near the border to Austria. They were in fine fruiting condition. Other interesting mossrecords from Fimbertal include Calliergon trifarium (Web. & Mohr) Kindb., C. giganteum (Schimp.) Kindb., Catoscopium nigritum (Hedw.) Brid., Bryum schleicheri Lam. & DC. (c. spor.), Stegonia latifalia (Schwaegr.) Vent. ex Broth., Sphagnum fuscum (Schimp.) Klinggr. and S. russowii Warnst.
