It's an interesting organization we belong to. Even the very idea of it seemed chancy to our founding fathers, few of them had any idea it would last half as long as it did. Against the common thought of the time, glassblowers were going to share information among themselves. We were to teach ourselves our own profession. This is not a new idea, master tradespeople have been teaching apprentices for as long as there have been professional tradespeople. What was unique here was the sharing of information among peers and those of varying levels of knowledge. The constant fear of "if I teach them this trick, my edge will be lost and I will lose money" was realized as an empty fear.
