With a long-term contract to supply components to a customer in the oil industry, Bolton-based Velden Engineering Components needed to ensure that all of its machining processes were secure and delivering optimum performance. However, when it came to drilling holes 36.5mm in diameter X 150mm deep in 17/4PH stainless steel, the use of indexable insert drills was creating a number of issues; a solution needed to be found.
