Michael P. Arias

Michael P. Arias, 51, of Brandon, FL, passed away August 25, 2005, after a courageous battle with cancer. Michael was born in Bridgeport, Conn. After graduating from High School, Michael attended Hoosatonic Community College. In 1972, he started an apprenticeship in glassblowing at Barnes Engineering in Stamford, CT. Two years later, he was hired there as an Assistant; he continued to work for the company until 1976. Over the next twelve years, he worked at Pensar, Inc., Perkin-Elmer Corp. and Voltarc Tubes, Inc. While at Perkin-Elmer, he was the co-inventor of a Compression Base Lamp (Patent #81005789.2). In 1989, he moved to Florida where he worked at a couple of neon sign shops before starting his own business, Michael P. Arias Enterprises, in 1992. He was the scientific glassblower at the University of South Florida from 1994 until 2005. Michael was a member of the ASGS for 19 years.
