Recently, Janus structures have emerged as novel particle configurations, and their convenient and effective preparation methods have undergone rapid development. The name 'Janus' comes from the double-faced Roman god, and numerous examples of these structures can be found in nature, including hydrophobin proteins.2 In typical preparation methods, the immobilization of premade particles on surfaces or interfaces is followed by selective chemical modification of the exposed surface. Techniques such as microfluidic photopolymerization and electrospinning (or electrospraying) have been used in an attempt to generate various Janus structures. Molecular assembly is another route to prepare Janus-structured compartments in a particle.
