Use of Simulation Software to Aide in Phased Array Inspection of Welds

Recently, phased array ultrasonic test (PAUT) has started to replace radiography as the method chosen to inspect many critical weld applications. While the strengths and limitations of radiography for detecting defects in welds are well known, the ability of PAUT to detect defects in welds is less understood by many people. Like any inspection method, having a good understanding of the process helps to maximize its effectiveness.
