According to the European Microsystems Network (www.nexus-emsto.com), surveys indicate that the world market for the use of micro products and micro components will be at levels close to ￡35 billion next year: Growth sectors include the manufacture of products relating to ink jet printers, pacemakers, hearing aids, motion sensors for the automotive industry, fuel injectors, gyroscopes and telecommunications equipment to name but a few. In July last year the Department for Trade and Industry announced a cash injection of ￡90 million over the coming six years to help industry harness the commercial opportunities offered by micro technologies.
