Toray develops lab-scale plant-based polyester yarn

Toray has produced a fully plant-based polyester yarn in laboratory scale, which is ready for partial launch. The new Ecodear polyester is made exclusively from renewable raw materials, comprising starch and treacle. At the Outdoor show in Friedrichshafen, Germany, the Japanese company also introduced a new waterproof breathable layer designed to keep skin protected from the elements.
