Asahi to exit polyester fibre manufacture fibre manufacture

Japan's Asahi Kasei is to cease in-house manufacture of polyester and monofilament, and will transfer production of its main specialty polyester yarns to Teijin Fibers Ltd. Asahi's polyester plant and monofilament production, both at Nobeoka, Japan, will close in September 2009. Asahi is to withdraw completely from the monofilament business, transferring all functions to Uniplas Corp., but the production and sale of polyester knit fabric for activewear will continue with its yarns supplied on an OEM basis by Teijin.
