Cutting it better tomorrow

As part of Sheffield's Global Manufacturing Festival, itself this year part of the UK's International Festival for Business 2014 (see box, pl7), the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) with Boeing's Advances in Machining' event was held during June, supported by the Manufacturing Technologies Association. Researching better ways of machining materials has been a core focus of the AMRC since the outset. Today part of the government's High Value Manufacturing network, the organisation was established in 2001 as a ?15 million collaboration between the University of Sheffield and aerospace giant Boeing.
