Wind farms expected to attract 6 billion pounds investment to the UK over the next six years

The British Wind Energy Association (BWEA) and the Government are predicting that some 8GW of wind turbine generating capacity, equivalent to some 5 billion pounds of investment (8.7 billion euros), will be coming to the UK in the next six years. And Energy Minister Stephen Timms announced four new offshore wind farms late last month at the beginning of the BWEA's 25~(th) annual conference and exhibition in Glasgow (28-30 October). UK manufacturing industry is expected to benefit from the explosion in wind turbine growth (see story below), with regional development agency Advantage West Midlands in particular driving a supply chain development project (see Machinery, page 10, 19 September).
