The daughter of a Niagara fruitgrower, and her boyfriend, are taking on California food processing giant Tri-Valley which is now the dominant supplier of frozen sliced peaches that are used by commercial bakeries as pie filling, and by dairies as a flavour for yogurt. Jennifer Smith, 27, is the marketing manager for Cherry Lane Farm frozen peaches and Shawn Stewart, 22, is in charge of production which this year is expected to be almost 300 tonnes. That's enough 40 pound boxes of frozen peaches in syrup to fill 20 tractor trailer units each hauling 1,000 boxes.
