Strawberry breeding at the Horticultural Research Institute of Ontario (HRIO) started shortly after the berry crops research program commenced in 1908. This program has introduced a steady stream of strawberry varieties important to the Ontario industry - a tradition that will continue into the future with new varieties to meet the grower's needs in both the fresh and processing markets.
