Fossil fuels will continue to drive global economies for the next 50 years, although the significance of various alternative fuel options and further research and development (R&D) efforts is growing. Leaders attending Singapore International Energy Week 2010 again underlined long-term dependency on petroleum by acknowledging the emerging importance of alternatives as well as carbon tax programs to manage robust economic growth in Asia and global carbon emission concerns.
