Nissan deploys Oorja DMFCs for materials handling

Nissan North America (NNA) has become the first vehicle manufacturer to commercially deploy direct methanol fuel cells to power its materials handling equipment (tugs), at its Smyrna, Tennessee assembly plant. The OorjaPac DMFCs from California-based Oorja Protonics provide a more energy-efficient and cost-effective battery-charging process for the 60 tugs that are used to transport thousands of vehicle parts throughout the 500 000 m~2 (5.4 million ft~2) facility. Meanwhile, Oorja Protonics has launched its Model H OorjaPac onboard battery-charging system, which can be refueled in less than a minute, 60% faster than its predecessor.
