A leader in combining catalysts and membranes,Johnson Matthey has entered into an agreement with PolyFuel to purchase the latter's hydrocarbon DMFC membrane for use in fuel cell-powered portable devices.PolyFuel first launched its hydrocarbon membrane technology for the portable fuel cell market in early 2004.Going head-to-head at various trade shows with DuPont's Nafion,the leading fluo-rinated membrane material,the PolyFuel nonfluorinated membrane exhibits superior chemical,mechanical,and electrochemical characteristics that will make it practical for commercial fuel cell designs in the portable market - for the first time - according to PolyFuel.
