The Biologische Bundesanstalt fur Land- und Forstwirtschaft has developed a standard numerical scale (BBCH) suitable for describing the growth of crops. This scale was adapted to describe the phenological events of Citrus fruit development. Eight main stages among the 10 stages of the BBCH scale were used: 0 (bud development); 1 (leaf development); 3 (main shoot development); 5 (flower bud development); 6 (flowering); 7 (fruit development); 8 (fruit ripening); and 9 (senescence and period of dormancy). Each of these main events is described, and their subdivision in secondary stages is explained.
