Everything OK with asparagus but big problems with peaches? Mercury in fish from Southeast Asia and considerable pesticide residues in bell peppers and rucola from Southern Europe are part of the standard cocktail which importers and the trade expectGerman customers to accept. So what are you supposed to do? Leave them on the shelf - or resort to organic produce instead? The monitoring initiated by the organic sector itself shows that organic produce is largely free of undesirable additional substances which are damaging to health, and this result has been confirmed by the German Federal Bureau for Consumer Protection and Food Safety again this year.
