Agriculture, including fruit production, is nowadays largely conducted according to classical industrial methods. Whereas the farmers of pre-industrial times spread fertilizer on their different small plots almost individually and irrigated them in asimilar way, industrial farming adopted standard treatment: depending on the average requirements and the average yield, uniform quantities of fertilizer, pesticides or water are applied to large areas, with the resulting positive effects on the profitability - and adverse effects on the environment. This makes "precision farming" the watchword in the age of information.
