International raw material assurance (SGF/IRMA) - philosophy, working methods and current challenges.

The implications of free trade within Europe for the fruit juice industry are considered, as are actions taken to ensure product quality, assure a supply of fruit grown according to consumer regulations, and encourage fair competition within the industry. Activities of the SGF (Schutzgemeinschaft der Fruchtsaft Industrie eV) in this regard are outlined. The SGF has 2 departments, dealing with `regional quality control system' (market checks at finishing and packaging units in Germany, Austria andHungary) and IRMA (International Raw Material Assurance), both of which are described.
