Glass and polythene film are the usual materials used to cover greenhouses. Double skin Plexiglas is less common. The high price was a reason for growers not to choose it. But increasing energy costs makes that reason out of date. Doubie skin sheet Plexiglas~(R) SDP (in the Americas sold under the brand name Deglas~(R) and also known as acrylic), has already for nearly 40 years been used for greenhouses. But for a long time the demand for the product was limited; most double skin Plexiglas had residential purposes, such as terrace roofs and winter gardens. It was quite logical that the product Plexiglas as a solid sheet was not common in horticulture. One of the reasons was the stiffness of the thin sheets, which was not good enough to cover largersurfaces. But these problems have already been solved many years ago.
