Paci?c lamprey, Lampetra tridentata (Gairdner), are ecologically and culturally important. As larvae they ?lterfeed while buried in silty sediments, and juveniles are prey for a variety of ?sh species (Close et al. 2002). Adult Paci?c lamprey have traditionally been used for food, medicine and ceremonies by Native Americans of the Northwestern United States (Close et al. 2002). However, recent declines in Paci?c lamprey abundance in the Columbia River Basin have triggered conservation actions and curtailed tribal treaty ?sheries.
