The enjoyment of a good book, let alone a good food book, is one of life's simple pleasures, especially for dietitians! Recently, it was with sheer delight that I read My Life in France by Julia Child with Alex Prud'homme. This collection of autobiographical stories reflects Julia Child's discovery of food and the awakening of her dedication to food that led to her eventual success as a famous American cook, author and television personality. As dietitians, we are recognized for our capacity to translate our nutrition and food science expertise into practice for the benefit of consumers, clients and the public. As I turned the pages of My Life in France, it seemed apparent that Julia Child, although not a trained professional, could provide an invaluable lesson to dietitians of the present day.
