Fly ash impact on physical properties of forest soils in the region Dubener Heide.

In this study the question is addressed how predominant historical atmospheric depositions of brown coal power plants in the form of alkaline fly ashes influence soil physical characteristics of forest soils. Storing and conducing water, humus layers are important for the water balance of forest soils. Along a deposition gradient, soils with a higher fly ash accumulation in the humus layer show an increased hydraulic conductivity, modified pore characteristics and a decrease in water repellency. Water repellency measurements evince a strong seasonal influence.
