CONSIDERING IMPROVEMENTS TO U.S. NATURAL GAS PIPELINE SAFETY REGULATIONS, PHMSA RELEASES ADVANCED NOTICE OF PROPOSED RULEMAKING

Through an advanced notice of proposed rulemaking (ANOPR), the Department of Transportation's (DOT's) Pipeline and Hazard Material Administration (PHMSA) announced on 8/25/11 that it is considering more regulations to improve natural gas pipeline safety in the U.S., and is asking the public to comment on the matter for the next 60 days. “Incidents with significant consequences continue to occur on gas transmission pipelines, and this action will help us determine whether new requirements are needed to increase safety,” said PHMSA Administrator Cynthia Quarterman.
