EIA: 2009 WAS NOT SUCH A GREAT YEAR FOR MAJOR ENERGY PRODUCERS AND PETROLEUM REFINERS

Crude oil, natural gas, and petroleum product prices all fell sharply in 2009, down from the record high prices in all three categories in 2008, the Energy Information Administration (EIA) noted in a recent report. The price of gasoline dropped by 32%, distillate by 43%, and jet fuel by 44%. In addition to prices falling in 2009, demand fell, capital expenditures fell, and accordingly, net income and profits fell. One bright spot: the reports of increasing domestic natural gas production.
