U.S. Chamber of Commerce's New Energy Policy 'Blueprint' Calls for Immediate Expansion of U.S. Oil and Natural Gas Production

Offering a new energy strategy for the U.S., the U.S. Chamber of Commerce on 9/30/08 unveiled a comprehensive energy "blueprint" outlining 75 policies that the next president and Congress should consider implementing. The document emphasizes, among other things, "immediate expansion" of oil and natural gas drilling in the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) and on federal lands. "Expanding domestic production will reduce our dependence on foreign oil and natural gas and significantly reduce the billions of dollars we send abroad each year," said James Jones, president and CEO of the Chamber's Energy Institute, which produced the blueprint. "As our reliance on oil and natural gas will necessarily continue for the foreseeable future, we can no longer rule out the value of our own significant proven oil and gas reserves nor the value of a future significant discovery anywhere in or off the shores of the U.S."
