Environmental Regulators Finalize Rule to Collect Facility-Level Data on Greenhouse Gases Emitted by Oil and Gas Industries Beginning January 1, 2011

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on 11/8/10 finalized greenhouse gas (GHG) reporting requirements under the Clean Air Act for the petroleum and natural gas industries as part of its mandatory reporting program. The final rule - the preamble alone runs 142 pages - is entitled Mandatory Reporting of Greenhouse Gases: Petroleum and Natural Gas Systems. The rule takes effect 30 days after publication in the Federal Register or 12/31/10, whichever is earlier. Mandatory reporting for oil and gas begins 1/1/11.
