Public Power Group Defends Recent Study of Natural Gas and Power Generation, Elaborates Concerns about Significant Switching to Natural Gas

The American Public Power Association (APPA) held a briefing on 9/2/10 to discuss its recent study, Implications of Greater Reliance on Natural Gas for Electric Generation, which was commissioned with the support of the Utility Air Regulatory Group and prepared by Catherine (Katie) Elder2 of the Aspen Environmental Group. Theresa Pugh, Director of Environmental Services, presented highlights of the study and outlined the challenges to large-scale deployment of carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) technology for both coal and gas.
