House Democratic and Republican Bills Target Regulation of Commodities Futures Trading

On 9/18/09 the House passed by a vote of 283-133 a bill to amend the Commodity Exchange Act and to remove the so-called "London loophole" currently tolerated by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). H.R. 6604, the Commodity Markets Transparency and Accountability Act of 2008, sponsored by Rep. Collin Peterson (D-Minn.), is essentially the same bill narrowly defeated by the House on July 30. it now moves to the Senate.
