DTE Energy Answers Allegation of Market Manipulation Posed by Customer of DTE Gas

DTE Energy Co. (DTE Energy) this week blasted comments of Severstal Dearborn, LLC, filed on May 15, which alleged “questionable operating practices” by DTE Gas and “possible market manipulation.” Rather than address “the impacts of recent cold weather events on the Regional Transmission Organizations (RTOs) and Independent System Operators (ISOs),” (in FERC Docket No. AD14-8)6, DTE Energy complained that Severstal levels unfounded attacks on its subsidiary and DTE Energy’s “energy trading business.” The allegations are entirely false as well as misplaced, the utility responded. DTE Energy told the Commission it is disappointed that Severstal has resorted to this type of attack in response to the difficult winter experienced in Michigan, and to how it may have been impacted.
