Having been competing since he started his apprenticeship, 17 years ago, and admitting that he enjoys the exhilaration and pressure of competing, Steven Beane was first crowned World Champion Blacksmith in 2009 and then again in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2014. This year was the 35th and last World Championship Blacksmiths' Competition in Stampede Park, attracting the world's top farriers - over a third of whom came from the UK - with 14 other countries represented. The final five - great all-round competitors - included three-time winner Darren Bazin, five times winner Billy Crothers, reigning champion David Varini and last year's reserve champion Matthew Randies.
