Safe and cost effective disposal of sewage sludge is one of the biggest challenges currently facing the industry, according to Lee Mountford, Product Manager, Veolia Water Solutions and Technologies. The changing economic climate means that some disposal routes have become non-viable while some treatment processes, which were previously uneconomic, have now become attractive. One such process is thermal hydrolysis, and the French cities of Saumur and Chateau -Gontier chose Veolia Water Solutions and Technologies to provide this technology for their sludge treatment systems.
