Woodchip corrals - an opportunity being missed by farmers and foresters in the South-West? Chris Bow of Working Woodlands thinks so ... A number of cattle, penned in an enclosure floored with huge chips produced from locally grown timber featured on the Working Woodlands stand at the recent South West Woodland Show at Exeter, the first such installation at any woodland show in England. These enclosures, (usually referred to as woodchip corrals), offer farmers a low capital cost, low maintenance, stock-friendly alternative to the current method of housing cattle indoors on straw bedding during the winter.
