Following two days of lectures and a field trip around Bradgate Park led by Claus Mattheck, Andrew Cowan considers the influence that this enigmatic German professor has had on arboriculture. Wandering around Bradgate Park early Saturday morning, I contemplated the previous three days, during which I had been given the opportunity to experience arboriculture through the eyes of the charismatic Claus Mattheck, at an event organised by Mick Boddy of Symbiosis Consulting (www.symbiosis.gb.com), in association with ARBORtrack Systems (www.arbortrack.com). I walked through the historic parkland landscape between the numerous ancient oak trees that appeared to be growing like living sculptures on a rocky outcrop, close to the main entrance from the car park inNewtown Linford.
