Biomass given boost in southwest

The forestry industry in southwest England has received a welcome boost with the launch of two initiatives that together will increase the uptake of biomass heating systems in the region. Both projects, one focussing on industrial-scale biomass projects, the other on smaller installations, are already stimulating growth of the woodfuel sector in the southwest and will increase local demand for timber and timber products. The first of these initiatives is presenting contract manager David Clubb with one of the greatest challenges of his career. The South West Bioheat Programme was launched earlier this year by Regen SW, the region's renewable energy agency. It aims to bring about a fourfold increase in the number of bio-heat systems operating in theregion, which could boost the incomes of woodland owners and farmers who diversify into the sector.
