Cumbrian sawmiller P Irving & Sons has come a long way in a short time, and is currently undergoing the latest in a series of transitions that should secure its future for the next generation. About to premiere a cutting-edge sawmill to deal with over-size diameter logs as well as hardwood, they will expand their processing scope to access new markets. Their next planned investment will be a biomass boiler to make use of woodchips produced as a sawmill by-product. The in-house production of heat from own resources will add value to their existing portfolio of products, namely sawn timber, peeled chips and firewood.
