Larch, P ramorum and the sawmilling industry

As we await spring and the forthcoming survey work to assess the spread of P ramorum in the UK, we should reflect on the demand and use of larch within the sawmilling industry. The ability to utilise larch is an important consideration when discussing strategies to contain disease. Whilst many see larch as a strong, durable timber, which is highly valued within the saw-milling trade and by its customers, in respect of Japanese and hybrid larch, this is often not necessarily the case.
