After a very wet winter and damp spring we have moved into the summer when traditionally the most selling activity occurs. We are seeing continued buoyancy in nearly all parts of the woodland market. In England and Wales, the economic powerhouse around London continues to drive woodland prices upwards and people still seem very keen to put money into owning their own piece of the countryside. In Scotland, the commercial plantation market continues to perform strongly, although we detect a degree of caution with properties that are less than ideal. For the first time in a long while, we are also seeing commercial plantations in England and Wales really begin to move upwards. Recent timber rises are the main reason for this surge, as many woodland managers have recently reported bumper timber salesin the second quarter of the year.
