Woodlots: new family forestry for Scotland

The Scottish Woodlot Association (SWA) defines a woodlot as a small area of woodland rented by a local person and managed by them to produce timber. The SWA is a membership cooperative, established in 2012 by a group of foresters who were inspired bythe Woodlot Licence system that has operated in British Columbia for the last 60 years. The SWA are promoting, creating and supporting woodlots in Scotland. The mechanism for creating a woodlot is a Woodlot Licence. This is a legal agreement between theland owner and the prospective Woodlot Licence holder.
