Controlling the great spruce bark beetle

The great spruce bark beetle (Dendroctonus mi-cans) is found in forests throughout much of Eurasia, from eastern Siberia to the west of Europe, in fact practically everywhere that spruce trees are grown. The beetle breeds under the bark of trees causing damage to the cambium, which debilitates and, eventually, causes the death of the tree. It was first discovered in Britain in 1982, although attacks dating back to 1973 have since been identified.
